Grammys prove that social media isn't just about the first story

The Grammys have been and gone. It’s been quite a while actually in news terms but you will be hard pressed not to open up a magazine, blog or newspaper and find an update about the event.
There is the Rhianna and Chris Brown story (seems obvious that they are back together) and then there is Adele apparently having a go at him too. Adele has since said that it was just an unfortunate photo. Drama!

The point is, when you bring so many hubs into one place who have their own following and adulation, fans are going to keep the story going. When there are so many people in one place, there are so many stories that develop outside of the ‘selected narrative’. That being what happens off the live cameras of the broadcast.

The story we’re meant to see (and back in the day this was easier to do) is that the Grammys happens, you see the stars then they have an after party. Every man and their dog wishes they were at the after party but you’d probably find it was just a bunch of stars ignoring each other and mingling with their tight entourage.
What happens now and we certainly get to see is that the stars are all tweeting their feelings and perceptions of what is going on around them. That provides a whole load of tid-bits for hardcore fans to get their teeth to and if it involves two stars arguing, they can even pick sides too.
When it comes to the great things that happen in social media, they are usually real events with an incredibly rich depth to them “outside the selected narrative”.

Another explanation is this. So many people went and saw Twilight: Breaking Dawn part 2, the story captivated them and they fell totally into the story and wanted more. Outside of the story though, there was something even more interesting to delve into, the on-off romance of the two stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
In Summary: If you really want to give your fans a chance to be hooked on your content, give it a depth that means people have a desire to find more… outside of it.
