There`s a division at the moment raging in the SEO industry about Link Building and is it still worth all the time and effort!
Here`s my opinion, Yes!
Why, I`ll explain! Back in the day when we could get links from any old website and those links carried link juice whether they was relative or not, it was easy to get certain keyword ranking well.
Times have changed infact if your a link builder and used the tactics today that worked back in 2008 you would be laughed out of the industry and most likely cause your clients to receive a penalty from almighty Google who updated their algorithms back with panda & penguin.
It`s easy to understand why Google have made these changes to their algorithms, website owners used to buy packages of inbound links, which within a few weeks could boost your keywords in the serps.
Google have updated their algorithms to weed out these techniques to level the playing field for websites, it`s more about great unique content these days.
You can still an effective link building campaign in the post panda & penguin era, here are a few pointers to keep your link building campaign on the straight and narrow.
- Exchange links with relative websites, make sure they have a good back link portfolio first. (Use a tool such as ahrefs.com)
- Guest Blog post`s, again make sure they are relative sites or from within your industry.
- Buy links from authoritative websites, Google does not like website selling links, there policy on buying links is more lenient.
