Facebook. Can you live without it? Can you even avoid it? The truth is, there is a new trend for “Facebook apathy” out there amongst the general public. Though there will always be those who oppose what is popular but this discontent is growing, particularly after the timeline update.
It then has to be seen as a masterstroke by Facebook to get iOS integration because when the very same thing happened with Twitter last year in iOS 5, monthly signups to the social network increased by 25%. An even better stat is that 47% of photos uploaded on Twitter are from an iOS device. Why did this happen? The barriers to entry were as simple as owning an iPhone or iPad.
Facebook is the social network that is mostly about your family and friends, so it’s a big win that they are now integrating your Facebook calendar (yes including all of them birthdays) and being able to share photos directly from the camera app.
It may seem impossible to the regular readers of our blog that Facebook could need any more awareness in order to gain new users but the reach of iOS devices cannot be ruled out. Think about those of the older generation using iPads and iPhones now.
It will be interesting to see just how this new integration affects the use of Facebook and the positive influence it will have on new account signups. Those Facebook shareholders will have their fingers crossed!
